The Independent Review of the Harbour Trust – the first since the agency commenced in 2001 – was announced by Minister Ley MP in October 2019 and led by two independent reviewers: former Secretary of Planning for NSW, Ms Carolyn McNally and former Executive Director of Infrastructure NSW, Ms Erin Flaherty.
The report on the Independent Review, released in June, included 21 recommendations regarding the future of the Harbour Trust and its operations. In a letter to Harbour Trust Chair, Joseph Carrozzi, Minister Ley said the Government agreed with the key recommendation that the Harbour Trust continue as an ongoing Commonwealth entity and “broadly accepts the other recommendations subject to more detailed planning and consultation”. Minister Ley also requested the Harbour Trust produce a Statement of Intent regarding the recommendations.
Today, Mr Carrozzi has publicly released a Statement of Intent (available below) detailing for Minister Ley how the Harbour Trust plans to proceed with the review recommendations, including next steps. Mr Carrozzi also conveyed the Harbour Trust’s commitment to meeting Minister Ley’s expectations regarding the agency’s role in implementing the recommendations.
The report on the Independent Review is available on the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment website.
