What locations are available for weddings?

Headland Park on Middle Head offers some spectacular outdoor settings in which to say "I do". We can recommend some locations that are particularly suitable for wedding ceremonies. All offer beautiful harbour views and tranquil bushland surroundings with areas of green lawn. Check venues available in Headland Park for wedding ceremonies

Can I get married on the sandstone walkway or circular platform at the Georges Head Lookout?

Georges Head Lookout is a lovely choice for a wedding ceremony. You can use the sandstone area as a walkway, but the ceremony must take place on the grass at the base of the steps in one of our designated licence areas. The circular platform is maintained as a public viewing point.

Can I bring furniture, equipment or decorations for use during the outdoor ceremony?

You may bring up to 10 portable chairs and one table. And free-standing decorative items such as flower arrangements or a red carpet are also welcome. All items must be weighted, not pegged or spiked into the ground and decorations may not be attached to trees or structures. Chuppahs or canopies for religious purposes are also welcome on the Harbour View Lawn. Any other equipment must be approved by the Harbour Trust. To help preserve the natural environment of Headland Park balloons, party streamers, sparklers, fires and bamboo torches are not permitted.

I'd like to serve food & beverages at my wedding.

We do not permit food or beverages for wedding ceremonies at either the Lookout or the Harbour View Lawn. However, food and beverage service is permitted at the Landship where there is access to power, water and nearby public bathrooms. After the event all rubbish must be collected and disposed responsibly off-site. There are no bins on site.

Is the Landship waterproof?

The Landship is a heritage room carved into sandstone and as a result some seepage does naturally occur. In heavy rainfall there may be puddles on the floor.

Can I erect a marquee?

Marquees can be used in approved areas on the advice of the Licensing Officer. However, all marquees must be weighted, not pegged, to the ground.

Can music be played?

You are welcome to accompany your ceremony with a small live ensemble i.e. no more than four musicians. Please note that amplification is not permitted.

Amplification is not permitted. What does amplification mean?

Amplification systems are not permitted on our sites. An amplifier is regarded as any device that changes (usually this means increases) the amplitude of a signal. Examples of amplifiers include microphones, stereos, public address systems (PAs), speakers etc.

Can I cover the grills at Georges Head Lookout?

The grills give visitors a glimpse of the historic tunnels and chambers below the headland. They may not be covered for safety reasons.

Is there a fee for wedding photography on Harbour Trust sites?

No, it is free. Wedding photography does not incur a fee, although all other commercial photography on our sites is charged. However, wedding photographers should note that other activities such as booked wedding ceremonies, tours, private events and public access have precedence and photographers must not disturb these activities in any way. The Harbour Trust also hosts a number of public events on its sites throughout the year which may hinder wedding photography so it is advisable to also refer to our Events Calendar in the lead up to your wedding.

Is parking available in Headland Park?

Parking is available on site. Public car parks are located off Suakin Drive and Crane Crescent at Georges Heights, and another further down Suakin Drive near the Georges Head Lookout.

What happens to my event hire fee if it rains?

Venue hire fees are non refundable. However, you are able to change the date of hire up to 3 pm on the last working day prior to your wedding without penalty. Final payment of the venue hire fee is not due until two weeks prior to your wedding.

How will my event hire fee be used by the Harbour Trust?

The Harbour Trust is working to enhance the amenity of the Sydney Harbour region by protecting, conserving and interpreting eight sensitive sites around the Harbour, including Cockatoo Island. The sites include heritage-listed buildings and most were previously closed or inaccessible to the public for many years. We now endeavor to maximise public access. All revenues generated by the Harbour Trust from venue hire and event activities remain with the Trust to further these objectives.
