Earthwatch, children looking at a plant species

Event: Help climate science - enjoy the natural beauty of North Head
Summary:

North Head Sanctuary Foundation will be conducting ClimateWatch guided walks on the first Sunday of each month from March to June.

An initiative of Earthwatch, and developed with the Bureau of Meteorology and The University of Melbourne, ClimateWatch is a citizen science program in which people in their local communities gather information about the influences of temperature and rainfall on plant and animal behaviour.  North Head is one of the ClimateWatch key monitoring sites, and the Foundation is assisting the program here.

On 4 March, 1 April, 6 May and 3 June, the Sanctuary Foundation’s Geoff Lambert will lead 2-hour guided walks to do some ClimateWatch species watching.

The walks will depart from the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust Visitor Centre, Gatehouse Building at North Head at 10am.  Please wear enclosed shoes, a hat, insect repellent and sunscreen and bring water.

Event: The Island Bar, Cockatoo Island
Summary:

Sip delicious cocktails, enjoy a snack and soak in views of Sydney Harbour from The Island Bar Cockatoo Island.

Serving drinks and food in a classic ‘aperitivo’ style, from the rustic base of four shipping containers reduxed as an al fresco waterfront bar. The Island Bar Cockatoo Island spans two levels with a courtyard of deck chairs and covered areas.

Convict Clues Trail

Event: Convict Clues Activity Trail
Summary:

Keep your eyes open and pencils at the ready as you search Cockatoo Island for convict clues in this self-guided activity. With a map and activity booklet, children will explore the island and discover what life was like in Cockatoo's notorious convict prison.

Suitable for children aged 7 -12 years (younger children may need adult assistance)

Cost Free
Date: Collect your free activity map and booklet at the Muster Station Visitor Centre, open daily from 10am - 4pm.

North Head Sanctuary Kids' Discover Room

Event: Kids’ Discovery Room at North Head Sanctuary
Summary: Visit the free Kids' Discovery Room at North Head Sanctuary to make a flannel flower, construct a bandicoot mask or create a discovery map of the area. Take a stroll along Gunners’ Walk to discover amazing views, native bushland and some cool old military structures.
Date: Available every day except for Good Friday
